Expresso 29 Coffee Shop is a cake-focused café at Blvd. Benito Juárez 2400, in the Obrera neighborhood, on the north stretch of Rosarito's main boulevard. You can spot it from the street by its black-and-white striped awning and the sign with the 29 inside a diamond. Inside it is a long room with chandeliers, white furniture and a mezzanine at the back; one customer estimated in 2025 that it seats about 15 people, so it feels calm. It holds 4.6 stars from 302 reviews on Google Maps (Oct 22, 2026), with reviews dating back to 2018.

Desserts are what set it apart. According to El Imparcial (November 22, 2025), it won best dessert at CANIRAC Rosarito's 2025 Galardón Gastronómico restaurant awards, and Rosarito Noticias (June 2026) describes it as the best-pastry award; at the previous edition of those awards, El Mexicano and SanDiegoRed (February 2023) had named it best Café–Deli. Reviews keep coming back to the crepe cake, the tres leches, the red velvet and the carrot cake, all made in-house, and to sweet crepes such as the Montse, filled with cream cheese, banana, salted caramel and almonds and topped with vanilla ice cream.

The menu goes well beyond cake. From 7 AM it serves full breakfasts: omelettes, chilaquiles with chipotle, poblano or red sauce, huevos rancheros, pancakes, waffles, French toast and avocado toast; at midday there are salads, sandwiches, bagels, croissants and pasta, plus a kids' menu. On its March 2025 digital menu an Americano was 50 pesos, a latte 80 and a slice of cake 85. Recent reviews mention newer additions such as chilaquiles with mole and iced lattes with cold foam; in June 2026 Rosarito Noticias highlighted the mango smoothie with Tajín, the horchata latte, the dragon-fruit lemonade and the Expresso sandwich.

It is open Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 10 PM and Sunday noon to 8:30 PM, so it works for a coffee before work or dessert after dinner. There are a few spaces in front of the shop and more on the street, and the entrance is wheelchair accessible. The complaint that comes up most in 2026 reviews is slow service on some days: if you are in a hurry, order as soon as you arrive.

What people say

★★★★★
«I've been coming to this place for quite some time now and I can say that they've improved over time and they've changed it up and it's becoming really nice and sleek. They do have about maybe two or three parking spaces right in front of the business but there's also other spots around the corner or in front of the street. They always have their restrooms really clean and I really like that they have maintained their recipes for coffee. […] The pricing is for the quality totally worth it as well as the attention, there's about room for maybe maximum of 15 people inside so it's not going to get crowded. You have to try their avocado toast which is made from locally baked bread and it's so freaking good.»

★★★★★
«Clean, quaint, comfortable setting. Espresso is very tasty. The Mexican mocha is as huge in size as it is in flavor. Fresh in house made cakes both by the slice or whole. They serve breakfast too!»
— Sergio Macias · Google, 2019-04
★★★★★
«First time trying this coffee shop. We Ordered the Vanilla Lattes and they’re sooooo good! Rich in flavor. My husband got a slice of the carrot cake which was also good! Definitely recommend»
— Ana Chris · Google, 2022-01
★★★★★
«The cakes are super tasty, some of the best I have had; it could use more ventilation, but the place is pretty.»
— Valeria Gomez Silva · Google, 2025-09
★★★★★
«A very nice place, attentive staff, exquisite food, but the only bad thing is that they take far too long to bring the order: we waited more than 40 minutes for two dishes when there was hardly anyone there.»
— Dara Denisse Silva Sanchez · Google, 2026-07
★★★★★
«A few months ago I went and the service from one young man was excellent! A month ago and yesterday we gave it another chance. Yesterday the service was very bad: the attitude, the taste of the food, how long the check took, etc. There weren’t many diners and still the food arrived cold […] I don’t know if they were short-staffed or what happened, but the experience has gone downhill a lot.»

Good to know

  • Come for dessert. The crepe cake and the tres leches are the most mentioned items in reviews, and in 2025 CANIRAC Rosarito gave it the best-dessert award (El Imparcial, Nov 2025). Whole cakes are also sold.
  • Sunday starts late. It opens at 7 AM Monday to Saturday, but on Sunday not until noon, closing at 8:30 PM (Google Maps, Oct 22, 2026). For Sunday breakfast, look elsewhere.
  • Don’t rush it. Several 2026 reviews complain about long waits for food and the check. If you are short on time, order as soon as you sit down, or stick to coffee and cake, which come out faster.
  • Where to park. There are two or three spaces in front and more around the corner and on the street (2025 review; Google Maps lists free parking).
