Monociclo Coffee Roasters is the Rosarito café where the scenery matters as much as the cup: a rustic wooden building on Blvd. Popotla, with a corridor full of antiques and plants that opens onto a terrace of couches, tables and lanterns overlooking the Pacific. That is what most Google Maps reviewers talk about: sitting with a coffee by the ocean and staying for the sunset.
Behind it is a local roaster. According to Rosarito Living (December 2019), Monociclo began as a specialty coffee shop, then bought its own roasting machine and rebranded; it sources green coffee directly from farms in Chiapas, Veracruz, Guerrero and Oaxaca, roasts it in Rosarito and distributes it around the region, and also trains restaurants and cafés. HipLatina (September 2021) credits Mexican coffee maker Alfredo Pérez with starting the brand; he also appears in a 2019 Baja123 video interview.
The bar serves espresso, latte, cortado, cappuccino, café de olla (spiced Mexican coffee), chai, matcha, herbal teas and lemonades, plus house drinks such as the Latte Florián and the Mocha Mixteca. For food, customers most often recommend the pastries from Bastón Horno de Pan, the bakery next door. They also sell whole-bean coffee, caps and T-shirts. Per its Google Maps listing, it takes cards, allows dogs and has its own parking lot.
The brand has more locations in Rosarito: Monociclo Libros & Café – Nerón on Blvd. Benito Juárez downtown (a café with books and crepes); Monociclo Casa Tostadora, about 130 m (430 ft) away on the free road next to Tapanco restaurant, where the roaster is on display; and Monociclo Jardín, a house with a patio in the Lucio Blanco neighborhood. Driving down from San Diego on the free road, the Popotla café is about 5 km (3 miles) south of downtown, on the way to Puerto Nuevo.

What people say
«Perfect for relaxing, good coffee, desserts and a prime ocean view. Prices are affordable. Ideal for a casual visit to enjoy the sunset with something sweet.»
«Excellent place with an ocean view, the drinks are very good and right next door is the Boston bread [Bastón bakery], which you can’t miss; after buying, you go enjoy the ocean view with your coffee. The only downside is that the tables need umbrellas. Go when the sun isn’t at its strongest. But recommended 👌🏻»
«It’s a very relaxed atmosphere. The coffee is delicious. I love the spot where you can sit, chat and admire the ocean. I simply love it. This time we got to see a flirty little squirrel. Haha»
«Such a beautiful place to have coffee and pastries while enjoying the beach view.»
«The coffee was a lil too much sweet, and the day that i went they ran out of a lot of coffee that was in the menu, so i couldn’t enjoy it to be honest. The guys that were taking our order they were really nice. The desserts were not that delicious but they’re were enjoyable. The atmosphere 10/10. You have a lot of spots to take cute pictures and watching the sunset»
«Excellent place to spend a pleasant time, away from the noise, enjoying the sound of the sea, contemplating the great postcard. Mirador closes at 5:30 p.m.»
Good to know
- Go in daylight for the lookout. The café closes at 9 PM, but a customer reported in 2025 that the lookout closes at 5:30 PM. For a winter sunset arrive before 5 PM and confirm by phone (+52 661 117 9400).
- Arrive early on weekends. There is a private lot, but reviewers warn it fills up on weekends; weekdays or first thing in the morning (it opens at 8 AM) are easier.
- Bring sun protection. The terrace tables have little shade: one customer asked for umbrellas and suggests avoiding midday. Bring a hat or grab the covered couches.
- Pastries from next door. Customers buy their bread and pastries at Bastón Horno de Pan, the bakery next door, and take them out to the terrace with their coffee.
- Beans to take home. For whole-bean coffee or to see the roaster, the Casa Tostadora location is about 130 m (430 ft) away on the free road, next to Tapanco restaurant.
