Playa de Rosarito, Rosarito, Baja California

Playa de Rosarito

Family beach

Rosarito's main beach —also called Playa Centro— is a strip of golden sand several kilometers long running parallel to the boardwalk and Blvd. Benito Juárez, in front of the historic Rosarito Beach Hotel. It is the tourist heart of town and the gathering spot par excellence: wide, with generally gentle surf and lined with restaurants, bars and seafood vendors.

Unlike the surf spots spread north and south along the scenic road, Playa de Rosarito is the downtown city beach: the most accessible, busiest and best-serviced. Here stands the iconic colorful "PLAYA ROSARITO" letters monument, one of the most photographed spots in town, right on the wooden boardwalk.

The boardwalk connects the beach to the Rosarito Pier, originally built in 1925 for cargo and today a family promenade with views, sport fishing and Pacific sunsets. It is a great starting point to walk the coast end to end.

By day the beach fills with families, horseback rides and ATVs on the sand; at dusk, the oceanfront bars and beach clubs (like Papas & Beer) take over. In winter, the sandbars by the pier can produce gentle left-handers, perfect for those learning to surf.

Great for

  • Walking the boardwalk and the photo at the letters
  • Horseback rides and ATVs on the sand
  • Families, swimming and oceanfront sunsets

Amenities & vibe

  • Horse and ATV rentals on the sand
  • Restaurants, bars and beach clubs along the boardwalk
  • Ceviche, shrimp and fish-taco vendors
  • Pier for walking, fishing and sunset views
  • Parking and beachfront hotels

Good to know

  • It is the busiest beach: it fills up on weekends and high season, especially near the pier.
  • Upkeep and cleanliness vary by area and season; the stretches in front of the hotels tend to be best kept.
  • For serious surf, head to the dedicated spots (K-38, Calafia, Las Gaviotas); here the waves are more for swimming and learning.

Other beaches & spots

Each is a separate beach, spread north and south of downtown along the scenic road.
