Café de La Fonda is downtown Rosarito's Colombian coffee shop: a two-story spot at Blvd. Benito Juárez 854, right across from the Rosarito Beach Hotel, with a "Grano 100% colombiano" sign you can see from the boulevard. According to SanDiegoRed (January 2017), it opened on August 18, 2016, and it has since become a regular stop for locals and for visitors coming down from San Diego: it holds 4.6 stars from 659 reviews on Google Maps (Oct 22, 2026).
Coffee is the whole point. Its website says the beans are grown in Colombia's Quindío region, in the Andes, at 1,800 to 2,200 meters (about 5,900 to 7,200 feet) above sea level, then hand-selected and roasted before they reach your cup. The name comes from the fondas, Colombia's traditional country taverns; we found no link to the La Fonda hotel and restaurant in La Misión (km 59.5), which is a separate business. The same company runs a sister brand, Bee Trading, which sells coffee, syrups and baked goods to hotels, restaurants and cafés.
The menu (updated on its website in June 2026) pairs espresso classics with Colombian specialties: the perico, with milk and a mellow flavor, and the tintico, stronger and black, which SanDiegoRed already called the house signatures back in 2017. There is Mexican-style chocolate de la olla, flavored lattes (vanilla, caramel, de la olla spice, mocha, lavender), a marzipan latte, frappés, coffee lemonade and, to eat, paninis, a sourdough baguette, croissants, cookies and cakes. A 12 oz latte is 88 pesos and the coffee of the day is 35.
Many regulars head straight upstairs: a plant-filled terrace for watching people and traffic on the boulevard. It is open 6:30 AM to 10 PM every day according to Google Maps, so it works for a coffee before the beach or a last one at night, when most of the strip has already closed. There is free Wi-Fi, cards are accepted and, according to its website, there is chess on Mondays at 6:30 PM.

«Nice little coffee house just across the street from Rosarito Beach Hotel. Went with a friend who is kind of a coffee connoisseur and she loved her Colombian coffee and the chocolate croissant she ordered was delicious. I had a cappuccino and it was so rich and tasty. Their pastries look very good and will probably try the pan de elote the next time. Nice ambience. They have a second floor great for people who like people watching.»

«Because of its location right on the boulevard, this café is a good stop for a cookie, some bread and coffee, either inside or at its small outdoor tables, watching people and cars go by. An interesting place.»
Good to know
- Head upstairs. The upstairs terrace is the best seat for watching the boulevard. The stairs are steep, and a 2022 review warned they had no handrail: take care if you are carrying drinks or have kids with you.
- Order the Colombian drinks. The perico (with milk, mellow) and the tintico (black and strong) have been the house signatures since opening day; if you skip coffee, the chocolate de la olla is a customer favorite.
- Coffee before the beach or late at night. It opens at 6:30 AM and closes at 10 PM every day (Google Maps, Oct 22, 2026), one of the few places open on the boulevard at those hours. Its website lists a 7 AM opening, so if you are going very early, call first.
- Take the beans home. They sell their Colombian coffee in 340 g (12 oz) bags (250 or 320 pesos depending on the type, June 2026 menu): a good souvenir for the drive back.
- Where to park. Google Maps lists free parking, both in a lot and on the street; a 2025 review mentions curbside spots on the boulevard. Downtown gets busy on weekends: allow some time.
