Rosarito-Ensenada Bike Ride
Since 1979, the Rosarito-Ensenada Bike Ride has gathered thousands of cyclists for a 50-mile route that starts on Boulevard Benito Juárez in downtown Rosarito and ends on the Ensenada waterfront with the Finish Line Fiesta: food, beer and live music until sunset. It's considered one of the largest recreational bike rides in the world, and the spirit is exactly that — recreational: you'll see carbon-bike teams next to families, tandems, costumes and beach cruisers.
It runs twice a year, spring and fall; the spring 2026 edition rolled on May 2, and the fall edition is set for the last Saturday of September, with registration from about $850-950 MXN (roughly $45-55 USD) at the official site, rosaritoensenada.com. Hundreds of San Diego riders cross the border for it every edition — it's the classic Baja cycling pilgrimage.
The route follows the scenic coastal road with the Pacific on your right much of the way, and it has one famous villain with a name: El Tigre, a long climb near the halfway point that separates those who trained from those who push their bikes up (no shame — walking it is half a tradition). With aid stations and a relaxed pace, most riders finish in 4-6 hours.
Logistics are the real key: book a Rosarito hotel weeks ahead because the town sells out that weekend, sort out your return from Ensenada in advance (return shuttle services with bike transport exist, or stage a car at each end), and get to the start early. Who is it for? Anyone with basic fitness and an appetite for a rolling party. Who is it not for? Anyone expecting a serious timed race: this is a massive fun ride, not a competition.
