ATVs & quads

AdventureFor: All levelsYear-round

ATV rides are still one of the most-booked things to do in Rosarito, and for good reason: in a single outing you go from throttling along the sand with the ocean beside you to climbing canyon trails between ranches. The machines are automatic — thumb throttle and brake, no clutch — so any adult with zero experience gets the hang of it in minutes, and kids can ride as passengers with an adult. There are two ways to do it: direct rental on the beach, or an organized guided tour.

Direct rental is the loose option: operators cluster on the beach south of the Rosarito Beach Hotel and by the sand access ramps, renting by the hour, negotiated on the spot and in cash. The organized guided tour, on the other hand, is booked online (Tripadvisor, Viator, Airbnb Experiences) and typically runs $60-80 USD per person: usually about 45 minutes of riding with a 10-minute practice session first, helmet included, on beach-and-canyon routes; many bundle in paintball, ziplining or food.

Local tips: bring sunglasses or goggles (canyon dust is merciless), closed shoes, and an extra layer in winter because the beach wind bites. Expect to leave an ID or deposit as guarantee, and signing a waiver is standard.

Skip summer middays — heat and a packed beach — and aim for mid-morning or the last hour of the afternoon, when the light throws in great photos. Who is it for? Families, groups, and anyone wanting moderate adrenaline with no prior experience — and at these prices it costs a fraction of a SoCal off-road tour. Who is it not for? Serious off-roaders chasing dunes and big machines: that's Los Arenales at Cantamar, 15 minutes further south (it has its own page).
